Design for Manufacture – Total Knee Instruments
In this example several existing instruments for a Total Knee system were required to be redesigned for improved Design for Manufacture.
The client’s specification also identified functional issues and other specific requirements
for individual instruments.
Our solutions allowed reduced manufacturing cost, facilitating fabrication of some more complex components, whilst removing a need for costly fitting and adjustment on assembly of others.
The identified functional and ergonomic issues
were addressed.
Overall instrument weights were also reduced, whilst the look and feel of the original instruments were able to be retained.
The work also involved prototyping and testing of some of the novel mechanisms.
