Zoned EBM Augments for Revision Hip
Titanium alloy augments for acetabular cup revision and complex anatomy in Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA). Comprehensive range combining traditional augment forms with more novel solutions, devised through extensive consultation with specialist surgeons and observation of numerous revision cases. Augments manufactured using E-Beam Melting (EBM).
our role:
- user requirements: surgeon visits to observe challenges involved with revision THA and discuss requirements and possible solutions
- concept generation and development for proposed device range
- Surgeon panel meetings: presentation of proposed designs and overall range; discussion with panel members and collation of feedback into actions for further development
- Design development through prototyping and cadaveric trails
- Augment design:
- solid metal cores with lattice-structure outer layers for long-term bone in-growth
- developed approach to CAD modelling to leverage advantages of additive manufacturing (EBM) – material structure minutely tailored to provide either porous or smooth, solid zones as required throughout each device
